Assess the number and location of catch basins on your parking lot. In many cases, slope is not achieved uniformly throughout a parking lot and lower spots may exist. Catch basins should be located in those areas to help water exit the surface. Catch basin installation begins by excavating the area as needed and installing a pre-cast concrete catch basin with necessary adjustment rings. Next, a cast-iron frame and lid is installed on the basin and set at the appropriate height for proper drainage. The excavated area is backfilled with crushed aggregate, leveled, and compacted. Generally speaking, parking lots will require reconstruction around the 12-year mark. This time-frame may be longer or shorter based on the amount of routine preventative maintenance performed on the pavement. If maintenance has been deferred, however, or if the sub-base has deteriorated due to other site-specific factors, it becomes necessary to perform rehabilitation or reconstruct the pavement, whether in sections or in its entirety.
