BRIDGEVIEW, IL – September, 2006
Rose Paving teamed up with the Chicago Fire Soccer during a month-long food drive to Steamroll Hunger. Their efforts, combined with local businesses, retailers, and schools, have raised over 1,000 pounds of food for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The amount collected surpasses the 1,000-pound goal set by Rose Paving and the Chicago Fire Soccer. According to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, only 20% of food drives yield over 700 pounds of collections. Last year alone, only 10 companies in the south suburbs were able to raise 1,000 pounds of food.
“The passion and support of local businesses such as Rose Paving and the Chicago Fire is an integral part of the success of our campaigns,” said the Greater Chicago Food Depository Communications Manager, Ruth Igoe. “Contributions help us continue our programs and help our community members through hard times.”
The donations consisted of much-needed items including tuna fish, peas, beans, tomato paste, tropical fruit, fruit cocktail, pasta, cereal, and other assorted canned fruits and vegetables. “I was extremely pleased to see many of our employees get involved and bring in items from their homes,” said Alan Rose, CEO of Rose Paving Co. “It is evident that every lit bit counts and I am grateful that our efforts will help improve the well being of our community.”
Donald Ortale, senior director of community relations for the Chicago Fire Soccer agrees, “Our fans contributed greatly to the success of the drive. We collected at least 50 pounds of food at each home game during the month-long event.”
In addition to organizing Steamroll Hunger, Rose Paving has been no stranger to community and charitable outreach, recently completing pro-bono pavement maintenance work for St. Sabina Church in Chicago and sponsoring a variety of 5k runs such as the Jeanine Nicarico “Run for Reading” in May 2006, benefiting literacy programs.
Rose Paving also organized a food drive to aid Hurricane Katrina victims last August and maintains a sponsorship with the Jennifer S. Fallick Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL.
